Nordic Lights
2022
Toronto
The Nordic Lights festival was an outdoor celebration of installations by artist from Nordic countries. This was the first large scale event that PSI had supported during the pandemic. Like with other pandemic projects, there were many unknowns, and planning timeframes were very compressed. But the elation of having a project to work on, and a chance to get talented techs and riggers back to work was enough motivation to deal with any challenge.
Any outdoor event contains an element of risk, but January in Toronto on the waterfront adds an extra potential for disruption. Minus 30 temperatures and a massive blizzard during load-in and setup added extra challenges, but the PSI crew handled it all with aplomb. Three massive self-supporting truss structures, one interactive LED wall cube, and a side of the Power Plant building projection-mapped drew large crowds throughout the run, including a two week extension of the entire project.
